BEAUTY UPDATE | Topshop Freckle Pencil, D&G’s New Skincare, Latest M.A.C-Prabal Gurung Collabo and L’Oreal buys NYX!

BEAUTY NEWS | DOLCE & GABBANA is launching a full skincare collection next month at Harrods. Created with P&G Prestige, the heart of the line is the Gold Flavo-Silk Tricomplex, a naturally-developed complex included to deliver the smooth, plump and healthy-looking skin that the Dolce & Gabbana girl is best known for and that make-up artist Pat McGrath creates seasonally with dewy foundations and pretty blushes and highlights at the fashion house’s shows. Olive oil and vitamin B3 are combined with the exclusive gold silk sericin for a triple punch of hydration. The Essential line sits alongside Aurealux – an advanced treatment line of a mask, serum, essence and eye gel. [British Vogue]

BACKSTAGE at the spring/summer 2014 shows there was much talk of “seeing” the models’ skin, and of a raw, natural beauty. Accordingly, a smattering of sweet freckles is right on-point for that pared-back, fresh-faced look, which is why Topshop’s new Freckle Pencil has come at just the right time for those without. We’ve seen freckle pencils before – & Other Stories has a great one and Lancôme used to offer one – but the beauty of Topshop’s is that it features a marbleised formula to ensure that each freckle is unique. MAC has confirmed a collaboration with designer Prabal Gurung. It has already unveiled collections with Lorde, Proenza Schouler and Disney film Maleficent this year plus a nail collection designed by Marian Newman next week and a The-Simpsons-inspired range in the autumn. Gurung and MAC have already worked together on some of the their ready-to-wear show looks, but this is the first time that Gurung has had a hand in the creation of the products themselves. The collection – described by Gurung’s team as “an ultra luxe, deco-themed holiday collection” – is expected to launch in time for Christmas, first in the US and then in selected international markets subsequently. L’Oreal has signed an agreement to buy NYX Cosmetics as it builds up its stable of U.S. brands. L’Oreal did not release the price it was paying for the company, but said the U.S. firm had sales in the year to the end of May of $93 million, up 57 percent on the previous period on a comparable basis. LOOKBOOK | Cut Out Brogue-Clogs at Eudon Choi? What’s that?

Cut out brogues? In clog style? Whoa! In this collection, it’s a triple bonus where Choi successfully marries elements of the 60s style, the preppy look and a touch of traditional Korean. You’ll see the unmistakably 60s silhouette with A-lines and bell bottoms layered up preppy style with sweaters.

But the coolest part has got to be the cut out brogues with the clog style platform. Okay, time to clear the store room for the cutout boots?

And the the bows which are a big part of the Korean traditional dress blends seamlessly into the urban silhouette. Keep your eyes on the slip-ons and sandals which are worn with socks, another Korean style element which we love. So, it’s cool to wear socks with sandals again guys!

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT – EUDON CHOI

Born in Korea, EUDON CHOI initially trained as a menswear designer in Seoul. After 4 years of experience in menswear, he moved to London to attend the Royal College of Art’s MA in womenswear.

Eudon was hired as a senior designer at All Saints a year before graduation and his RCA graduate collection was sold at London’s Dover Street Market. In 2008 he became a senior designer at Twenty8Twelve before leaving in 2009 to launch his eponymous label.

His inspiration comes from intensive research into historical photography and sourcing vintage garments, focusing particularly on menswear detailing. He extracts the essence and aesthetic beauty he uncovers and reworks it. As a result the EUDON CHOI look is understated yet modern and meticulously constructed.

Eudon’s recognitions and awards include Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s Ones to Watch, the VFS Merit Award (which enabled him to stage his first solo catwalk show off schedule at London Fashion Week), the BFC/Elle Talent Launch Pad (a support program co-ordinated by Elle and the British Fashion Council), Samsung Fashion and Design Fund and the LYCRA® Style Emerging Talent Award at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards in New York.

In September 2011 Eudon was invited by Anna Wintour and Franca Sozzani to present his S/S 2012 collection at Milan Fashion Week in honour of THE VOGUE FASHION FUND.

EUDON CHOI has an international appeal having been stocked in some of the world’s most prestigious stores including Selfridges & Co(London), Browns Focus (London), Luisa Via Roma (Italy), Harvey Nichols (Hong Kong) and 10 Corso Como(Korea). His clothes have also appeared on the pages of Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Stylist, Marie Claire and Vogue. Eudon lives and works in London.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT | ADAM LIPPES

A graduate of Cornell University, Adam Lippes began his career in fashion at Polo Ralph Lauren before moving to Oscar de la Renta, where he grew to be one of the youngest creative directors in the luxury fashion world.

In 2004, Mr. Lippes launched his eponymous label, ADAM, which took a new approach to classic American sportswear in a fresh, polished and feminine collection.  The brand was distributed in three free standing retail stores, shopadam.com, and the finest retail partners in USA, Canada, the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.   ADAM, with a dedicated following for both its fashion and basics, has been featured in every major publication, including W, Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Allure, and the NY Times.  With multiple covers of Women’s Wear Daily and a feature segment on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Mr. Lippes, a member of the prestigious CFDA, was named one of the most important designers of today by Vanity Fair magazine.

In 2013, the Adam Lippes brand was launched, a collection of luxury sportswear anchored in classic elegance, refined fabrics and impeccable tailoring. Launched to critical acclaim for Fall 2013, the brand is focused on supporting and growing the luxury manufacturing facilities available in New York City.

Adam lives both in Soho, NYC as well the Berkshires, in Southwest Massachusetts.
