Oh, we are in love! These beauties are super lust-worthy as they are especially issued to mark Shanghai Tang’s 20 years. We need these at the next fashion week! These frames are inspired by the authentic Chinese round glasses and re-invented “with a twist” through five colours combinations and the modernity of the strong eyebrow shape. And we love that juxtaposition. Shanghai Tang’s modern vision of the Chinese Chic is brought to life by a collaboration with Australian optical frames and sunglasses specialist AM Eyewear. Yes, we admit it. We just love pretending like we’re living in hotels! And we think that our editor, Mel, takes it a little too far. She even has personalised toiletries and monogrammed towels in her bathrooms! So if you’re like Mel and just love living in luxury, try these tips to create that hotel spa vibe at home. No matter how your bathroom looks like, these little details will fool you into thinking that you’re in paradise once more.
Yes and by that we mean the shower caps, bath salts, comb, emery boards, shavers and cotton buds and balls. They aren’t expensive anyway, so it’s really easy to put those together.
DISPLAY YOUR TOILETRIES ON A TRAY
Or plate. Mel just buys an oversized plate from IKEA and lays out all her facial care products, and jars or cotton balls and buds. If you’re the zen type, bamboo or wooden trays are great too. And if you like the oriental or Asian style, lacquered trays can look fabulous on your counter top. For the spa look, add flowers, candles or stones.
All you have to do is buy those small hand or face towels, roll them and arrange them neatly in a basket or box. It’s more environmentally friendly too as you don’t end up wasting tissue paper. Okay, but this is probably more practical if you have someone helping you with the laundry. Otherwise, hang a nice hand or face towel by the sink and change that every 2 days for hygiene purposes.
Oh, yes. Isn’t this our favourite part? Having access to clean towels is probably the most helpful thing when in hotels. Mel buys 10 towels of the same colour and brand and stacks them up in her bathroom. If you want, you can match all the colours of the bath towel, hand towel and bathroom mat.
Awww… this one just melted our hearts. Alicia Keys’s son, Egypt, made his debut at the Ralph Lauren’s autumn/winter 2014 children’s catwalk show held at the New York Public Library recently. And boy isn’t he a natural!
Hey, Brisbane! Get your dancing feet ready as MINI Australia is set to launch the all-new MINI hatch with a cool dance floor. The innovative, interactive and wildly illuminated (new and original like the car) dance floor will come to life and light with your dance steps and movement! It was created in collaboration with acclaimed Melbourne artist Darren Sylvester and award winning design practice Eness.
The new and original MINI dance floor will react to your movements with lights.
Watch the trailer of the MINI dance floor here:
Well known for colliding art and music, Darren Sylvester has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Recently he starred in the National Gallery of Victoria’s successful Melbourne Now exhibition with the light installation that inspired this MINI dance floor. Tech experts Eness have had their work exhibited from Japan to France and extensively across Australia. Impressive! Well, we’re convinced. Plus, our Melbourne folks look like they had fun at their party (below).

Putting the dance floor (and partygoers) through their paces across each event will be Melbourne’s Naysayer & Gilsun. Having wowed crowds at Golden Plains, Falls, Big Day Out and MONA’s Dark Mofo, the duo will set the night alight, with support from some of Australia’s best music collectives in Pleasure Planet and Animals Dancing DJs (Melbourne); Astral DJs and Pelvis (Sydney); Mitzi DJs and Jay and the Ladyboy (Brisbane).
Want to go this sick party? Submit for a public ballot via MINI’s Facebook page:m.mini.com.au/dancersvp and see the MINI dance floor for yourself.
The event happens on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Brisbane Lightspace from 7pm till late.
