McDonald’s Taiwan cashiers wear school uniforms and cat ears?

Yes, according to a news reported by Rocketnews24, cashiers at a McDonald’s in Taiwan were actually dressed in cute maid uniforms recently.  They even greeted customers by calling them “master” and using other maid-like phrases.

But that was just the beginning. Instead of  just stopping at maid outfits, the McDonald’s outlet continued to make things more interesting when their workers wore Sailor Moon-inspired Japanese-style schoolgirl outfits complete with knee-high stockings and cat ears. They politely thanked each customer by calling them their mentor or senior as if the customer was an older student at the same school. They would then give the customer a salute with their right hand as if they were in a police academy. Even younger McDonald’s customers received the same treatment!

Check out of video of the cat-eared schoolgirl McDonald’s workers in action!

Flight attendant uniforms

A day before the schoolgirl outfits were introduced, the workers wore flight attendant uniforms. Maids, schoolgirls, flight attendants…they seem to be hitting every otaku’s dream scenario. The Facebook page for McDonald’s Taiwan says that all stores in the country will be participating in the cosplay promotion on December 31. How exciting!

While we wait to see what the next round of costumes look like, check out the videos below of some of the coverage the Taiwanese McDonald’s cosplay staff have been getting!

What do you think? Should the McDonald’s in your country try something fun like this? What other costumes should they wear?

Shannon Richardson of Australia’s Next Top Model takes on the streets of Brisbane PLUS behind-the-scenes shots

We’re back again with another Discover Brisbane Through Fashion initiative. This time, Shannon Richardson is the star of this fashion shoot set against the bustling Queen Street, Brisbane. Curious shoppers stop and watch the shoot before carrying on with their retail therapy. But Richardson is no stranger to all the attention. After all, she was one of the final seven models on Australia’s Next Top Model.

Like Amanda Vietheer from our last shoot on Stradbroke Island, Richardson is also under the stable of Katz Model Management. The morning of the shoot, Richardson arrives 20 minutes ahead of call time after making a two-hour journey into the Brisbane CBD from the Gold Coast. For a stylist, having a punctual model is pure relief as it is a sign of a good model. Indeed, Richardson is a breeze to work with.

Maria Rivera who returns for this shoot to lend us her amazing skills as makeup and hairstylist, thoroughly enjoyed working on Richardson’s makeup. The leggy model has an amazing complexion and her professional attitude makes her our model crush of the moment. Scenes of Richardson exploring Queen Street is beautifully captured by photographer Carole Margand who stays focused throughout the shoot despite onlookers. In this shoot, Richardson is styled by former Cosmopolitan senior fashion editor Melati Kamaruddin who features outfits and accessories from Sheike. See the behind-the-scene shots at the end of this story and more about Queen Street.

Behind-the scenes

Photographer Carole Margand and assistants recce the location while fashion stylist Melati Kamaruddin carefully curates the outfits from Sheike. Sheike is a local fashion brand which churns out amazing pieces on a weekly basis. And satisfying the global thirst, Sheike is available online with worldwide shipping facilities. Their brick and mortar is located in the Wintergarden mall on Queen Street.

For those who are not familiar with Brisbane, Queen Street is home to a few malls including the Queen Plaza and Myer Centre. But today, our shoot is based in the Wintergarden mall. The fashion crew which is based in Brisbane is doing this fashion shoot as part of the initiative to showcase local talents. Kamaruddin says, “When I first started looking for makeup artists, hairstylist and photographers in Brisbane, I really didn’t know where to start.” She confesses that she had grown too comfortable working with her fashion crew back in Malaysia who together have shot numerous fashion spreads and covers for Cosmopolitan and The Women’s Weekly. “Getting out of my comfort zone, working with new people was the right decision. Brisbane is really full of talented, creative minds.”
